A few months ago, we mentioned the progress made on two new shoes for 2022: the WW500 released at the beginning of the year but more importantly the MW900 whose development has not gone as planned. We tell you everything
In the spring of 2021, the development of the MW900 was well underway. We are working on a waterproof, breathable shoe that is extremely comfortable. In July, Clément, a field test engineer, entrusted a dozen pairs to golfers across France for a long-term test. The Aim? Wear the shoes as often as possible under all conditions to accelerate their wear and tear.
Quite quickly, the testers' feedback was not good. The "Knit", the woven component was not satisfactory. It wasn't working well with the thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) part on the forefoot, which created an unsightly bulge. Furthermore, the Knit part was not very easy to clean. It quickly turned from white to greyish. There is no way we can approve this.
The design team therefore made the difficult decision to change the main component. This was a tough decision, as it would delay the product launch date by several months.
The engineers and designers began searching for the ideal component. The team came up with the idea of using Ripstop, a technical fabric found in trail wear, work wear, and even military clothing. It is very light, ventilated, and water-repellent. Above all, the way it is woven makes it extremely durable. It has the advantages of leather or polyurethane (PU) and the look of a fabric. Combined with a membrane, waterproofing is ensured. The icing on the cake is that its transparent aspect can lead to something very interesting in terms of design.
The MW900 is thus back for a whole series of validations before a launch planned for the autumn-winter 2023 season. We will, of course, keep you informed of the project's progress.
