That was our brief: grip during the swing to swing freely, traction when walking to stride confidently up and down slopes in the wet and comfort to play 18 holes and want to keep your shoes on your feet after. OK, so how do we do that?
First, we chose to work with design agency ARRO Studio .and Erik Arlen, co-founder of the agency—and a big name in the shoe world to boot. He designed Rafael Nadal's shoes for a start...
With Erik, we quickly chose to develop a "spikeless" sole, i.e. one without screw-in spikes. This increases flexibility and makes the shoe much more lightweight, so that you can forget about it on the course. The numbers speak for themselves: the Inesis Grip spikeless sole gives 10% more grip than the screw-in spikes of the Inesis Spike 500.
Inesis Grip concept shoes share the same sole. It is made up of 3 parts, each of which fulfil one criteria of the brief.
We tested the sole in all conditions: dry, slippery, damp, wet and on all surfaces: grass, sand, earth, mud... and the results were really positive. So we decided to just use this one sole but with 3 upper variants to suit different weather conditions:
To give the Inesis Grip a winter makeover, we worked on two aspects: warmth and waterproofing.
For warmth, we basically created a super-comfortable and warm slipper using a mesh and Lycra fabric. We also doubled the amount of foam in the lining all around the foot. Lastly, the sockliner is covered with a thicker and super-soft component for total insulation from the cold.
To make it waterproof, we kept the waterproof membrane of the Inesis Grip Waterproof in the lining of the shoe. We added a polyester component around the outside for even more resistance to rain and wind. To make them easier to get on and off, there is a waterproof zip under the laces, which have been kept to offer a more precise fit.
Weighing in at 432 g in size 43, the Grip Winter only weighs 47 grams more than the Grip Waterproof. Not bad!
To clean your Inesis Grip Winter shoes, give it some wellie! You can rinse the shoes under running water without having to worry. If the mud has dried, simply give them a brush and your shoes will be ready for your next round.
