For 2021, the Inesis ball range will be evolving slightly. We'll still be keeping a model for each level:
Let's take a closer look at what's changing.
Those starting out in golf tend to lose a lot of balls. This is normal. So, it's best to look for a high-performance but low-cost ball such as the Inesis Distance 100. With an average rating of 4.53/5, it would be true to say that it meets the expectations of beginner golfers.
But a lost ball has a negative impact on the planet. In the USA alone, 300 million balls are lost outdoors every year. THIS was what we focused on when developing the Distance 100 for 2021. Rather than improving its performance or further reducing its price, we decided that the best way to improve this ball would be to reduce its environmental impact.
The Distance 100 is a ball made of two parts: a core and a cover. When the ball is produced, there are several steps that generate material offcuts. We decided to make use of these offcuts by injecting them back into the production process. We also added in the rubber cores from balls that failed our quality controls. The more material we manage to incorporate that would otherwise have been discarded, the better. But there comes a point where we risk compromising ball performance. Our research has shown that the proportion of reprocessed material can be as high as 22% for the core, 33% for the yellow cover and 50% for the white cover without having a negative impact on ball performance.
All golf balls, whether matte or glossy, have a coating applied to them. This looks good and is durable, but is not the most environmentally friendly. Our idea was therefore to eliminate the coating from the Distance 100 ball. The result is that the ball is no longer glossy but has a satin finish, and markings come off a bit quicker. This does not affect ball performance at all. We asked beginner golfers if this new design bothered them, and most said it didn't, that they liked the satin look and that, if it was better for the planet, we should choose this option. So we did.
Applying these actions to the production process of the Distance 100 ball saves 125 tonnes of CO2 a year. That's equivalent to 125 return flights between London and New York.
The Distance 100 continues to be available in two colours: white or yellow, at a price of €7 per dozen.
The Soft 500 is the softest ball in the Inesis range. It is designed for intermediate players (handicap between 30 and 15) who are beginning to get a good feel of the hardness of a golf ball and appreciate how the ball is compressed on impact. The Soft 500 is a ball with a very pleasant feel for long shots as well as your wedging and short game. A ball that's a delight to play on every shot.
The rubber core and outer Surlyn cover of the Soft 500 are made from materials that have been developed to be as soft as possible on impact.
The Surlyn cover is formed of 10% raw-material offcuts that are reinjected into the production process.
For 2021, we have kept the four best colours of the Soft 500 as gloss finishes: white, pink, yellow and orange. This year sees the arrival of two new colour options with a matte finish: neon green and neon red. Conventional or bold: choose the Soft 500 that suits you.
Advanced golfers (handicap under 15) seeking control to ensure the ball stops very quickly when taking on the green without sacrificing feel or distance.
The Tour 900 ball is designed for advanced players. It's designed for long drives, and to stop quickly on the green. These are two opposing qualities. When driving, you want a ball that explodes off your driver with little backspin. But when using your wedge, you need maximum backspin. To get both, you need a three-part ball. The core guarantees the ball's initial speed and the urethane cover grips the club face, creating backspin. The Surlyn mantle layer of the Tour 900 ball acts as an interface between the core and urethane cover. This fine-tunes the distance/softness/control ratio.
The Tour 900 is available in two colours: white and yellow. New for 2021 is the attractive glitter finish embellishing the yellow Tour 900 to give it an even flashier look on the course.
