Today we dive deep into the design of future Inesis golf shoes. We are more than a year away from releasing them. The study phase has been completed. This was a chance for us to study the market, to collect an enormous amount of feedback on current products, to look for trends that will develop over the coming years. We have a fairly precise idea of what we want to keep and what we want to improve. Sophie, Footwear Product Manager at Inesis finalised the brief. Now it's up to Erik, Senior Footwear Designer, to show off all his expertise and talent.
It all starts here. Launched in 2019, they represented a real revolution in the Inesis shoe range. We started afresh and launched three models:
These three models have the unique feature of being developed from the same innovative sole, in three parts (EVA midsole, rubber and TPU outsole). A "spikeless" sole, that is to say without screwed-on spikes and with one goal in mind: maximum grip. And the least that we can say is that the Inesis Grip range has made a remarkable entry into the golf market, notably with the "Best Value" award it received from MyGolfspy two years in a row and, above all, it has won over many golfers.
At the start of 2022, we will be launching two new models. The "WW500" (for Warm Weather 500 - the name is not yet definitive) will replace the Inesis Grip Dry. And the "MW900" (Mild Weather) that will be added to the range as well as the Inesis Grip Waterproof 2019. These will be replaced at the end of 2022.
The job of Sophie, Shoe Product Manager, is to build upon the qualities of the Inesis Grip and identify the areas for improvement.
It was a risk and a big challenge when launching the Inesis Grip: designing a shoe without screwed-on spikes (spikeless) that provides as much or more grip than a pair with screwed-on spikes. We are completely reassured about that. The feedback was excellent and even big hitters, like our partner Félix Mory (Challenge Tour), who need a lot of ground grip, adopted them.
All that remains is to develop the sole to eliminate the defects of the previous version. A tendency to get stuck when the course is very muddy and wear too quickly in certain areas, especially when walking over tarmac.
Erik, our shoe designer therefore envisaged a totally new sole
Or rather, two soles! Because while they do have a lot in common, the soles of the MW900 and WW500 should not be identical. Both their spike architectures have been intensely worked in order to guarantee top-level grip, to ensure more even wear and to avoid getting stuck. They differ in their materials. The MW900 will offer extreme versatility. For this, Erik reintroduced the principle of a rubber sole, softer for grip while walking and a TPU part, more rigid for grip during your swing, especially on soft ground.
Although visually very close, the WW500 sole is completely different. Its structure will have openings and be made of a single component because the stiffness of the TPU is not necessary on dry ground. To do without it makes it possible to make it lighter, more flexible and therefore more comfortable.
It was one of the keys to the comfort of the 2019 Inesis Grip. The principle of an EVA midsole is therefore reintroduced for the new 2022 models. However Erik has completely redesigned this central part of the shoe around two ideas: furthering the notion of comfort by developing the texture of the EVA foam and reinforcing stability by studs cleverly placed to support your golf swing.
We wanted 2022's new products to be in line with the Inesis Grip range. A stylistic evolution, more than a revolution. Erik therefore designed a shaft incorporating the codes of the Inesis Grip 2019 with an area surrounding the ankle, separate from the forefoot. Components are being developed in order to give preference to materials that are more environmentally friendly.
A "Boa" type quick lacing solution should feature on the final model of the MW900. This is a guarantee of ease and comfort since you can adjust the desired tension very precisely and quickly, even during the round. The WW500 will maintain a classic lacing, which helps with its weight as well.
