After spending 105 hours testing 46 ball models and hitting almost 5400 robot shots, the Americans at MyGolfSpy have published the results of their biennial test*.
(*every 2 years)
Yes, the previous 2021 test stuck in our craw. Because the results weren't at all what we'd expected from the robot tests carried out by the independent American laboratory Golf Laboratories.
So we immediately set to work to understand where this production drift was coming from and, above all, to correct it.
Then we had to live with MyGolfSpy's communications for 2 years, even though we knew the problem had been corrected. And 2 years is a long time.
46 ball models have been selected by MyGolfSpy for this test.
At 115mph, the swing speed of a fully fit Tour player, the Titleist Pro V1x Left Dash is the longest, the shortest being the Taylormade TP5.
And what about the Tour 900? It came 20th out of 46 in terms of total distance, with 340.71 yards (or 98% of the distance of the leader). A very satisfactory result this time.
In conclusion, the Tour 900 is right up there with the premium urethane balls, often at half the price. It is above the average of MyGolfSpy's selected balls in terms of pure distance to the driver and has the particularity of generating a lot of spin, somewhat limiting its distance on medium irons, but ensuring exceptional control on green attacks.
You may have noticed that among these 46 ball models was a somewhat mysterious ball, called the Tour 900 "Proto".
We worked on a new version of the Tour 900 and submitted it to the MyGolfSpy teams. Objectives:
We're not going to tell you everything now, but if you take a look at the results, you'll see that they're very promising: 14th in total distance on the driver at 115mph, more ball speed, better spin control on the middle irons, but control qualities preserved. It all looks very promising...
