In the last section, we saw how development and design passed from the product manager’s brief to the initial 2D designs for clubs. This goes alongside, at least for the 900 series, a strong technical bias, seeing as it’s for a Combo series. That is to say, 3 different types of clubs:
It’s at this point that the heads of our engineering team, Pauline and Kevin, take the lead, to specify the two structuring elements of the iron head: the mass and centre of gravity.
Once Kevin has defined the main characteristics of each club, Alexandre, our 3D modeller, liaises with the design team to translate it into a 3D industrial file with the proposed design images. It’s not always perfect on the first attempt, so there can be a lot of back and forth and compromising in order to get to the final form.
What next? Dozens of plastic 3D prototypes, then metal prototypes, before validation of the final form. We then rework the finishes, which are completed directly with the factory team. We’ll save the details of that step for next time... ;)
