Glossary
ADDRESS: Positioning oneself before striking the ball.
FAIRWAY: Area of short cut grass between the tee and the green.
GREEN: Part of the course where the grass is cut very short, around the flag.
HANDICAP: System for the ranking of amateur golfers based on the average number of shots required for a course (scale from 0 to 54).
HOOK: Trajectory where the ball goes from right to left (for a right-handed golfer).
HOSEL: Part of the club head where the shaft slots in.
LIE: Angle formed by the shaft with the ground. Attention: the wrong lie can cause unwanted spin like slices and hooks.
LOFT: Angle of the club face with the ground).
OFFSET: Offset between the club face and the shaft).
(OVERSIZE (HEAD): Oversize head.
ROUGH: Area where the grass is left long at the edges of the fairway.
SHAFT: Club "handle".
SLICE: Trajectory where the ball goes from left to right (for a right-handed golfer).
SQUARE (FACE): When the club face is square on for the strike.
STANCE: Position of golfer's feet at the address.
SWEET SPOT: The ideal strike zone on the club face.
SWING: Movement of striking the ball with the club.
TEE: Small plastic or wooden rest used to raise the ball slightly for teeing off.
